Lead Ore Gravel

The Galena area grew through the efforts of resilient, industrious folks who put the area on the map by being the first major site of the mineral rush in the United States. They mined over 21 million pounds of lead in just a 3 year period. If you want to finish The Lead Ore, you’ll need the same tenacity that these early pioneers demonstrated. The Lead Ore will take place from the Massbach Ridge Winery which is situated smack dab in the middle of the Illinois Driftless region. This is arguably the most scenic region Illinois has to offer. If you have never been to the Galena area, you're in for a surprise. The area offers many activities for couples and families. We recommend making a weekend out of this one and taking in the full experience.

The 85 mile route will provide a hard day for even the strongest rider with over 6,500 feet of elevation gain. The routes will be made up of approximately a 50/50 split of pavement to gravel sectors. The 85 mile route will have 1 aid station that will provide nutrition, a carb mix, and water. The routes will not be marked. You must download the route to your GPS cycling computer. There will be a 7 hour time cut off to finish the 85 mile distance. The 45 mile will be no walk in the park either. Riders will accumulate over 3,500 feet of elevation gain. Riders will finish next to the beautiful vineyard which over looks the rolling countryside. There will be a post race party to celebrate doing hard things. Riders will receive a drink and post race meal with their registration. Massbach Ridge Winery will have sangria and wine slushies for purchase.
